MLB on Sirius did a quick report on the rumors, only a few seconds. Nothing different than what's been reported but they're more likely to have live info than MLBN at this point. There's not even an actual deal rumored yet, Cashman definitely has room to keep sweetening if this is the guy he most wants (I said it before, CLE was never sending Kluber to NY if there is any other reasonable alternative) and make it hard for Brodie and Denbo to say no.
I would say I'm not going to sleep but you guys know this is my prime time anyway.
Actually I think if anything happens MLBN will go live again, they are all set up and that is the reason they are all there, I think they'd be elbowing each other to get on.MLB on Sirius did a quick report on the rumors, only a few seconds. I have to say, I've enjoyed hearing him on the MLB coverage ... nice blend of detail and cynicismJoel Sherman tweets "nothing imminent tonight so go to sleep already", heh.
Realmuto would be the primary piece for them here, they have been trying to get him without including some combo of Rosario/Nimmo/Conforto and this would allow them to do that.I cant imagine the Mets wanting Andujar as a primary piece here. He can't play 3b and their top prospect is a 1b. I think Andujar's value is really limited by his complete inability to play defense, it just really limits his ceiling. Thor is 25 and had 3 years left. If they were actually going to trade Syndegaard, why not reach out to the Dodgers? A deal centered around Verdugo would be more attractive than anything around Andujar no?
Cashman just sent 22 year old top 50 prospect Justus Sheffield to SEA, literally their #1 prospect. I think Gleyber is off limits but any other youth, from Andujar to Florial to Clint Frazier to any and all pitching prospects, would be on the table for the right SP.Especially when you're dealing with a GM who always refuses to give up his top youth in trades.
Brandon McCarthy was on this team? Who knew?To keep us busy, I found this great tweet
True, but what player(s) has Ca$hman given up have gone on to success with their new ball club?Brandon McCarthy was on this team? Who knew?
Seriously tho – what that tells me is that Cashman goes for big name guys when it comes to pitching and about two-thirds of them don’t work out.
Since that list begins in 1999, the Yankee prospects that have been on the move include Homer Bush, Ed Yarnall, Drew Henson, Jackson Melian, Brian Reith, Jason Arnold, John-Ford Griffin, Yhency Brazoban, Branden Weeden, Nick Johnson, Juan Rivera, Brad Halsey, Dioner Navarro, Ramon Ramirez, Eduardo Sierra, C.J. Henry, Jesus Montero, Hector Noesi, Vidal Nuno, David Phelps, Dustin Fowler, Jorge Mateo, James Kaprelian, Billy McKinney.True, but what player(s) has Ca$hman given up have gone on to success with their new ball club?
That's an extraordinary list. Comports with my recollection. I remember folks in the media used to refer to other teams' itching to get one of those "vaunted Yankees prospects" but the reality has been that Cashman et al. have had an incredible success rate in what vaunted prospects they've held onto versus which ones they sold off in exchange for established and sometimes elite MLB talent.Since that list begins in 1999, the Yankee prospects that have been on the move include Homer Bush, Ed Yarnall, Drew Henson, Jackson Melian, Brian Reith, Jason Arnold, John-Ford Griffin, Yhency Brazoban, Branden Weeden, Nick Johnson, Juan Rivera, Brad Halsey, Dioner Navarro, Ramon Ramirez, Eduardo Sierra, C.J. That's not entirely fair, because some of those deals came packaged with established major leaguers (like David Wells in the Clemens trade, or Brandon Drury in the Happ deal, Melky for Javy Vazquez, or Vazquez himself in the Randy Johnson trade). And since this is built on that tweet, it ignores trades they've made for hitters, and some of those names were always intended to be filler. Jury's still out on Fowler, Mateo, Kaprelian and McKinney, but most of these guys haven't so much as sniffed the majors, and among young players only Nick Johnson, Phelps, and Navarro have had useful careers (and I guess Melky if you count him).
It is certainly a skill. That's an extraordinary list. Comports with my recollection. And something that I don't think Cashman gets quite the magnitude of credit he deserves. I'm surprised he hasn't gotten the Danny Ainge treatment from other GMs, who are hesitant to do those kinds of deals with him for fear of getting fleeced. It is certainly a skill.
I want to give Cash credit but there’s some built in risk when teams acquire prospects. The fail rate is exceptional. AJ Burnett comes to mind. But not many.
Melky?
No surprise at all. It was obvious after the WS that we should be willing to move him for the right piece knowing that Machado was available. No surprise here. Yanks willing to deal Andujar.
Yes, but he is only 23 and has a special bat, and can probably (probably) be converted to a left fielder or first baseman if needed. If you think of him as a Gary Sheffield or Alfonso Soriano level bat (and I think this is legit if he stays healthy), you begin to see the appeal.Am I the only person wondering why an NL team would want Andujar so badly? Doesn't his profile scream "DH?"
I think what Rosenthal means is that Andujar would go to Miami, Realmuto to Mets and Thor to Yankees.Wait, so now the Yankees are interested in just Realmuto and are willing to give up Andujar? What about Sanchez?
There is another rumor that NY would get Realmuto to keep him and use him/Sanchez as C/DH while making Stanton the primary LF. I think there is zero chance this will happen, NY can't really afford to give up their trade chips for a second catcher.I think what Rosenthal means is that Andujar would go to Miami, Realmuto to Mets and Thor to Yankees.

There isn't a Yankee fan on the planet who would be upset to get Syndergaard and Machado at the cost of $ & Andujar.
Nope, it’s Realmuto straight up.I think what Rosenthal means is that Andujar would go to Miami, Realmuto to Mets and Thor to Yankees.
Interestingly, the Ringer looked at this very phenomenon yesterday and discovered that, yeah, most of the top prospects who get traded turn out to disappoint.I want to give Cash credit but there’s some built in risk when teams acquire prospects. The fail rate is exceptional. See: Yoan Moncada
Edit: to clarify, Moncada has been a disappointment at this stage in his career. Has shown some signs but overall doesn’t look like the number 1 prospect “can’t miss” superstar that was traded for Sale.
Good article. Thanks for posting that. I know Sherman said there was tension between the Marlins and Yankees' front offices, but with Denbo in Miami, the information gap (as discussed in the article for those who haven't clicked) has to be a good bit smaller than with most teams. I wonder how much of a difference that makes in working out a deal.Interestingly, the Ringer looked at this very phenomenon yesterday and discovered that, yeah, most of the top prospects who get traded turn out to disappoint.

Of course they do!!! As has been well established here on SoSH, opt outs ARE team friendly!!!Michael Kay says the Yankees are very much in on Machado but they want opt out protection.
