    Evaluating the Front Office

Not just guys who have had success in the NFL, but an OC who is known for his work with QBs and a staff who have worked with him or in similar systems.

    The Unikornet

Case in point - Amir Johnson. He shot 40% from three one year for the Celtics, but his release was so slow he rarely shot.

R7/231 Jaheim Bell TE Florida State- Doesn't this guy get a thread?

I assume he’s either going to improve his blocking or be gone. Doesn’t seem to have the talent needed to thrive as a pure receiver.

Jayson Tatum's Rise to the Top

My point is that they will do it happily if and when he wins.

    Derrick White, playoff alpha

I think these kind of evaluations have gotten harder in recent years, because movement of contracts has become as much a part of trades of veterans as movement of players and picks. Nominally speaking, the Celtics traded Marcus Smart, Danilo Gallinari, Mike Muscala and Julian Phillips (who) for...

Jayson Tatum's Rise to the Top

The 7 rings Curry and Kawhi have between them might explain part of that. I don't think it is disrespecting Tatum to not put him at the level of people who have led their teams to titles. If you want the case that Tatum is underrated compare him to Joel Embiid.

Joe Mazzulla officially named head coach

That caveat matters. But Joe has to coach against, and the Celtics play against, the actual opposing team, injuries and all. Have to give Joe and the team credit for doing it.

Celtics vs Da Culture - Round 1 (FIGHT!)

Tatum played 32 minutes (second to Holiday with 34) including the first 18 to 20 before he subbed out. But attempted only 9 shots as White exploded again. Perfect example of playing within himself and being part of a defense that just shut the Heat off in 3 straight after game 2.

    Derrick White, playoff alpha

White finished 16th in the NBA in blocked shots. More blocks than Giannis and Bam, among many others. Also 16th in blocks per game, 24th in block percentage. Cleaning the glass puts White at the 100th percentile in blocks by a combo guard with a percentage of 1.8%. Al Horford, who had the same...

Celtics vs Da Culture - Round 1 (FIGHT!)

It was brutal, but, much like the first quarter of game 3, what took the sting out of it was holding the Heat to 12 points in the quarter. There was a play late in yesterday's game where Tatum was dribbling at the 3 point line, maybe took a step in, and there were 3 Heat players and no Celtics...

    Derrick White, playoff alpha

Weird fact: White only has five 30+ point games in his NBA career, but his 2 highest scoring games (38 and 36 [with the Spurs]) have come in the playoffs. His other 3 (33, 30 and 30) are with Boston either last year or this year.

    R3/68 Caedan Wallace OT PSU

It is a mild one, is what I mean. If you say “we think he can play there” a necessary implication of that is that you aren’t sure and maybe he can’t. I don’t think anyone is saying “we think he can play LT” about Joe Alt for example.

    R3/68 Caedan Wallace OT PSU

"We definitely feel that he can play on the left side" is, to me, an opinion. They are saying they think nhe can play there, not that they are highly confident he can start there in game 1. I agree that those are basically what the options are, and it doesn't look great, but obviously Wolf...

Celtics vs Da Culture - Round 1 (FIGHT!)

I think a lot of those layups were very difficult ones.

    R3/68 Caedan Wallace OT PSU

I'm not sure I'd call it a gamble, in that I doubt the plan is "Wallace at LT or bust." I do think LT is the area of need that they likely did not address satisfactorily in the draft. They must have some confidence in their ability to rework the OL with the talent on hand, Wallace included - but...

Celtics vs Da Culture - Round 1 (FIGHT!)

It was a great game overall, but I thought they did revert to their "no pace" style of 4th quarter play and predictably let the Heat cut deep into the lead. I was digusted by the straight up bias in the officiating tonight. The refs called 2 different games. It's dangerous when you hit a guy in...

Worth noting that the Pats are changing up their OL scheme, aren't they? With new coaching.
