Middle game of the series, HOU is evidently sending out a descendent of a pirate and Dave Righetti against Carlos Rodon. This, like every Wednesday game for the next couple of months, will be streaming on Amazon as well as conflicting with the Knicks (Yankees start an hour earlier), so not sure how much I will get to see of this.

Luis Gil has 7 starts now, hits allowed in each in order:

1
2
3
2
7
2
1

Just 18 hits allowed in 37 innings, .143 BAA.

Oh also I wanted to point out that the Yankees gave their first update in a while on Jasson Dominguez, he will be starting minor league rehab games in a couple of weeks. If he is going to crack the lineup again, he is going to bump Stanton or Verdugo (unless someone gets hurt), I found it interesting that both homered tonight after that announcement in the afternoon.

What to do with Dominguez will be an interesting decision. Verdugo is playing well and Stanton is showing flashes of being back on track. If everyone remains healthy, I'd like to see the Yankees work him in as a super sub for a while with maybe two or three games a week and more rest/DH time for Verdugo/Judge/Soto/Stanton and see if he forces his way into more playing time.

Dominguez will definitely go to AAA and have to be impressive enough to force NY to make a decision first, but yeah it will be very interesting after that if everyone stays healthy.

Heh that is why you don't run yourself out of an inning with Judge up next.

There's something so satisfying about it when Stanton really connects. It just looks perfect.

Heh, that kid probably cost NY a run by grabbing the ball in play, and his dad is ripping him. Hilarious.

Those pitches to Judge and Stanton were both center/center, an Olympic target shooter would have been proud of the bullseyes.

Rodon pitched a game against NY for the White Sox in 2021 that made me fall in love with him, as unhittable a SP against as NY has seen in recent years. He was awesome again for all of 2022 with SF, NY signed him to a huge deal, 2023 was a total washout for various reasons, we all know the story. I am only going through that to say that finally now we are getting back to the guy I sports lusted over in 2021, unhittable stuff. Keep it going Carlos.

NY really should be up by more, confused Gleyber ran them out of bases loaded and Judge up, then the kid in RF probably cost them a run.

Soto, Judge, and to his usual inconsistent degree Stanton are ripping 110 mph liners with unusual frequency right now. This is the potential of the lineup

Soto and Judge had 8 RBIs between them in a 9-4 win, that seems good.

NY should hopefully have both Burdi and Kahnle back in the next week or so, Tonkin is an easy cut but then maybe they give Ian Hamilton some time off to finetune things again.

https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/40109490/yankees-slugger-giancarlo-stanton-drills-hardest-hit-ball-24

He continues to have the highest ratio of how hard he hits it to how hard he appears to swing. Soto, for all his precise control, looks like he's swinging very hard in comparison (and of course, he leads the league in EV).

When Judge - currently 2nd in MLB in EV - eventually takes the lead from Soto, it will be his 7th consecutive non-COVID season of leading both leagues. I may be getting ahead of myself, but I still think the fact that he's got 6 in a row is one of the crazier ongoing MLB stats that isn't really discussed. Being #1 6 or 7 straight times in a field of hundreds means you are several standard deviations above average

The list was in a screenshot on Twitter recently that I can’t find, but Stanton still has the #1 fastest bat speed in MLB.
