Mr. Wednesday said:Bill Archer makes a fairly convincing argument that this payoff to Warner was in return for his support for Bin Hammam's bid for the presidency of FIFA.
It's not surprising that The Telegraph jumped at the opportunity to link the money to WC bidding corruption while burying its note on the presidency bid deep within the article. Not that WC bidding was free from corruption (duh), but I agree that this looks more like some previously unknown financial details behind Warner and Bin Hammam's removal from FIFA.
The organization is so broken that any real smoking gun would need the power of several nukes to make a difference anyway. There's no cleaning up FIFA until, I dunno, it doesn't exist anymore. Nobody's going to boycott the WC.
