I think it depends upon whether or not they can put together a package of plays for him and sell him on it as a way for him to see the field this season.
Hey Joe, coach Mayo here, we have a few options for you:

1. We work with you on transitioning to tight end with an opportunity to start in the NFL;

2. You compete with Bailey Zappe for practice squad QB; or

3. USFL tryouts will begin in 6 months.

Sleep on it. Thx.

In the simulacrum
I'm pretty sure Milton will be led into temptation, with regrets in the end. The sales pitch starts like this:

Mayo, bolder now, uncalled before Milton stood,
But as in gaze admiring: oft Mayo bowed
His turret crest, and sleek enamelled neck,
Fawning; and licked the ground whereon Milton trod.
His gentle dumb expression turned at length
The eye of Milton to mark his play; Mayo, glad
Of Milton's attention gained, with serpent-tongue
Organick, or impulse of vocal air,
His fraudulent temptation thus began ...

That's exactly what I was going to say.

No coaching staff is getting a freak like this and converting him to a TE before trying their best to figure out if there's a 0.001% chance he puts it together as a QB. The athletic profile is insane, it's Cam Newton+. Of course, if he's clueless then you look into your option.

The Coney Island of my mind
Don't write this down, by I find Milton probably as boring as you find Milton.
Park him on the double secret practice squad.

I wouldn't put too much into his comments at this point--being supremely self-confident is a postive trait for a QB. If he's still sticking to his guns after throwing the ball over the luxury boxes on a quick out, that's another matter.

With his arm strength, they should just have him run the nut shot play from The Longest Yard once a game. Should really cut down on the pass rush.

I am looking forward to the preseason game where Milton hurls a 70 yarder to Boutte for an LSU reunion resulting in 6. I am not looking forward to the Boston sports media painting a picture of controversy between who is #2 vs #3 behind Brissett in Sept.

Edit: Oh the Milton the toaster commercial made me realize how old I am. I remember those commercials on Saturday mornings.

Milton didn't play for LSU.
I was just correcting that when you posted above. Not sure what I was thinking, I will leave the mistake there.. I just spent a few minutes googling Boutte to see if any movement on the gambling thing. I really want Boutte to reach his potential.

I don't think they are remotely comparable as players.
I am well aware. They’re both good-ish college QBs with an undefined position that people will be calling for at some point in the next couple years to “get a chance”. Less likely with Maye of course.

I was more thinking Michael Bishop
My thoughts too.
When I was at my high school a coach suggested the way to pick our athlete of the year was to make a scale rating the athletes on a scale for different categories. Since he was a football coach, of a team that didn't win, he wanted to make a scale to favor football, speed, strength, were heavily weighted, success of the teams was not. Since Michael Bishop had flamed out as QB of our local cfl team I asked who would rank higher on his scale, Bishop or Tom Brady.
