9/20 - Twins vs Red Sox

When I was a kid i thought "Harmon Killebrew" was the best name. After the 1974 season, when he was pretty much toast, the Twins released him and he went to KC. He proved his toast-ness in 75. Though I can't confirm it on the intertubes, I remember reading (Sporting News, probably) that, in...

    R1/3: Drake Maye QB UNC

History doesn't really answer the question, so I dont know whether Maye should sit or play. But the NFL has no minor leagues, where a harper can get 600 PA's when it doesn't count. So it's a bit different.

Let's Talk About the Sale/Grissom Trade Some More

Sox are going to have 3 guys make 30 starts for the first time since 2021, all under 30, all just about at or above league average ERA+, all of whom have demonstrated that they belong in the major leagues, though perhaps in the middle of, rather than the top of, a rotation. That isnt nothing and...

Sox do need several teams to flounder.

That's interesting. But, if he's healthy, and not just fatigued, I think he'll still be pretty effective at reduced velocity.

I'd give a dollar to the first player using some Bo Carter walkup music:

The Red Sox let go of several longtime coaches, scouts & instructors

Fair point, but (and not trying to be snarky) Breslow wasn't a Chief Baseball Officer until he was. Regardless at least a few of the Sox departed are in pitching, so even if you limit Breslow to pitching people, there might be quite a few Cubs guys he wants; and who he may also thing are ready...

The Red Sox let go of several longtime coaches, scouts & instructors

Your point is accurate as far as the A's go, but I think the A's are such outliers that extrapolating their experience to other teams doesn't seem useful. (You might be right overall; I really don't know how much revenue the post season generates for the participants.)

As @E5 Yaz noted, the Sox run-differential stands at zero point zero. (All would agree that Vernon Wormer would be a better pbp guy than DOB. Yet, like Hall of Fame Broadcaster Joe Morgan, Adolphus Raymondus Vernon Agopsowicz is also dead, so that's a no-go.) The pathetic offense does have the...

The Red Sox let go of several longtime coaches, scouts & instructors

I think the bolded is mostly a post hoc conclusion based on the fact that they haven't been winning. To me it's akin to determining whether a player "cares." That's it's intentional is one possible conclusion. It's just as likely that it's based on mistakes in talent evaluation, or minor...

The Red Sox let go of several longtime coaches, scouts & instructors

Even assuming that maximizing shareholder return is now their #1 priority (which I don't, but so what) a reason they might "mess with it" is that a payroll increase combined with what is (mostly) an indisputable influx of young (and cheap) talent means that an increase in spending has a much...

When Is It Okay To Worry About Triston Casas: An Attempt at the Reverse Jinx

Well, Dom Smith seemed to like him, based on Casas's interview of him. And then Dom Smith got released. Hmmmmm.

2024 Bruins Off Season News - Everyone Else But the Center

If they said 6 and he said 10, 8.5 would track. I have little patience for those who walk away from negotiations instead of countering at least once. They are unserious about making a deal.
