Yes, but unlike cumulative traditional stats, it can go negative. There's no guarantee Abreu will even end the year where he is now.

    5/18: HoucKutter v. (don't really care)

If you have a better idea with the current players in the organization, I'm sure Cora would love to hear it.

Over-under on baserunners in the top of the 9th is 0.5. I'll take the under.

    May 2024 News and Notes

Why can't we get leagues like that? I hate the third wild card with the byes and this is just another reason. The old new system with the two wildcards playing a one game playoff got you quicker playoffs, more first round drama, and better teams in the tournament.

Who to sell at the trade deadline?

The good news this year is that Casas is due back a full month before the deadline. So we'll have a good idea what the team looks like with him back in the lineup. It's not like last year where all the reinforcements were due back after the deadline and it was too late to do anything when they...

    Following Former Red Sox 2024...

Good thing the Red Sox didn't give him a ten year contract when he was 22.

The options were Grissom, Romy, and Refsnyder with the platoon disadvantage or lefties McGuire and Dom Smith. I probably would have used Reese, but you never know when catchers need a full day off, so he might not have been available outside of an emergency.

May: Red Sox discussion, observations and trend tracking...AKA It's not all about the Benjamins

Duran would be great as the worst hitter in your regular lineup. Unfortunately he's in there with Rafaela, the replacement-level first base platoon, a weakened Grissom, and whoever is left over to play DH. That leaves the team relying on him to produce runs rather than looking at what he does as...

Wave of mutilation: The latest injuries

Seems like you could use Whitlock as the opener for 3-4 innings and then go to Criswell who might be able to finish it off. One of the optionable one inning guys would be sent down to make room, but being an arm short in the pen wouldn't be a big deal if they don't need to use any that game.

    Statcast bat speed data

There's something of an inverse relation between the ability to square up a pitch. Early Observations From Statcast’s New Bat Tracking Data | FanGraphs Baseball Guys with lower bat speed will square up the pitch more often, so they can have better outcomes than the ones who swing harder and...

A Dream of 2025, What is Going Right and Looks like the Sox can Build On

Yes, a 150 OPS+ guy is usually a top 10 hitter and in the MVP conversation every year. And the Red Sox have had a guy on the team who has that ability for most of the last 40 years. Even when someone like Papi wasn't quite there, he was someone you knew could do it. They don't have one now and...

A Dream of 2025, What is Going Right and Looks like the Sox can Build On

The Story and especially Casas injuries killed the lineup. They went from banking on some pop from SS and an excellent hitter at first to giving away a bunch of at bats. Next year if everyone is healthy, the offense will look a bit better. But there still isn't a true bopper in the middle of...
