Denver Nuggets (2) vs Minnesota Timberwolves (3) - 2024 WC Second Round

A good point, I admittedly was only thinking about the US. Not sure how important star power is to international viewing of the NBA, it’s an interesting question.

I think so. Jokic is great but I am not sure how much appeal he has nationally. Minnesota brings a decent sized market and in Edwards, a budding star that the association is probably happy to showcase a bit more? Boston-Dallas is the most appealing finals, obviously. Indiana making it wouldn’t...

Agreed. But the thought of losing to him is kinda horrifying.

May: Red Sox discussion, observations and trend tracking...AKA It's not all about the Benjamins

Oops I was looking at fWAR- which has much lower numbers for Sox players; Duran is at 1.8, Abreu and Wong at 1.1.

May: Red Sox discussion, observations and trend tracking...AKA It's not all about the Benjamins

There are 23 position players “projected” to have 5.9 wins this year; only 9 did so last year. IIRC, Verdugo was on pace for a 5 win season at this point last year, and ended up at like 1.5. (Just checked- a year ago the Sox leaders were Verdugo at 1.3 and Yoshida at 0.6 fWAR- on pace for 4.5...

Does war really project that way? It’s not a cumulative stat. It seems hard to believe that a team could have so many 4-5 or better win players and still be below .500.

OKC Thunder (1) vs Dallas Mavericks (5) - 2024 WC Second Round

Kinda crazy that Gordon Hayward was a perpetual DNP in this series

OKC Thunder (1) vs Dallas Mavericks (5) - 2024 WC Second Round

Oh, I agree. But the idea of Kyrie hoisting up the LOB, maybe even in Boston, is nauseating. Even if unlikely.

OKC Thunder (1) vs Dallas Mavericks (5) - 2024 WC Second Round

Mavs beating the Celtics in the finals would suck

Who to sell at the trade deadline?

I think that’s right; that Jansen has never really operated as anything other than a closer may limit his market, a bit, but if he’s mostly subsidized, I’m sure a team will take a chance (similar to the white sox with Kimbrel a few years ago) that he can be successful in a non-closing role.

Who to sell at the trade deadline?

Jansen is an interesting one- he’s not eligible to receive a QO. He’s pretty much always been a closer; I’m sure someone would take a chance at him as a set up guy, but seems like one where the Sox may have to cover a lot of salary to get not much in return.

Who to sell at the trade deadline?

Are people ok with a Duran-Rafaela-Abreu OF, though? Assuming Yoshida at DH; it feels like a team potentially really lacking in power, esp for the right side. Maybe it’s a matter of finding a lefty masher to take some of the DH/OF at bats, but I think ideally you’d want someone like O’Neill. I...

Sure, but Devers has actually been good with runners on base.

Another homer for Devers, although I’m sure this hit will be dismissed as meaningless since there were no runners on base.
