I wonder if there is room for a rule here. Something like if a player gets a penalty inside the 10 seconds mark OT is extended two minutes. probably won't do that (although I like it) but maybe some kind of rule could be devised.

edit: I see I was late to the party but we all seem to be thinking on the same page

Yeah that last second penalty helped the whiney Florida DBags. As others have mentioned there should be a rule there for that scenario

I'm agnostic about whether he was right about this particular call. I think we all know that "directly overhead" is the most reliable angle. Is the answer putting a camera *under* the goal line. Or in the cross bar and in the posts at ice level?
At least in the NHL, where money is not a problem, constructing goals with embedded cameras on the underside of the crossbar, looking directly down at the line would probably get this correct, especially if the refs were given a quick primer on the problem apparent in extrapolating information from angled cameras.

BTW, in this particular case, I don't really care that much, but it is an interesting situation as, because of the ice itself, the goal line in hockey is a somewhat unique boundary in sports.
