Will that move Fowler into a guaranteed Ryder cup spot?

my bad it was Keegan who was in the 7th spot.
He’s up to 12th after the win. Probably a lock.

The US is absolutely stacked. Probably bumping Finau or Cam. Keegan might be a lock too.

Scottie
Wyndham
Brooks
Cantlay
Xander
Max
Morikawa
JT
Spieth
Rickie
Keegan
Sam Burns
Cam Young?

The team probably comes from those 14

I know we have a separate thread for it but JT needs to really show something here on out if I’m choosing. I suppose he is in and may deserve it but he will be an anchor on the squad at this point. Nice to see Collin play well this weekend.

I'm much more of a casual fan than many who post here. Is this normal, appropriate, and/or within the rules?:

Smalley was 19 under after his birdie on No. 14 but three-putted for par on the 17th. Both players needed to hole their approaches on the 18th and neither came close. They finished at 19 under.
Smalley said he didn’t know what Straka was doing ahead of him until broadcaster Colt Knost gave him a heads-up.
Sepp Straka shoots 62 despite double bogey on final hole, wins John Deere Classic - The Boston Globe

Yes, it's legal and common. The on-course reporter can't be solicited or offer advice but they can answer generic questions like who is winning and what's their score. It's information Smalley could've gotten by looking at any of the leaderboards on the course.

In this particular case I'm a little surprised Smalley didn't know earlier. Straka was 6 groups and over an hour ahead of Smalley. Straka posted -21 while Smalley still had 5-6 holes to play. I know some players don't like looking at the leaderboards and just want to play their game but at some point he should've been told the number was -21 for a playoff.

Always enjoy the 2-week Scottish run on the schedule. Not a designated event but the best non-designated field of the year. I know the Renaissance Club isn't a true links but I still like the different style of golf as a change to the week in week out US courses.

JT has put the left hand low putting into play.

JT missed the cut in 3 of his last 4 starts. He's struggling lately. Started the year well, got wobbly in April, and recently... ick.
It goes back to last year. Since he won the PGA he's only had 5 top 10's in 25 starts and 2 of them came in limited fields (Tour Championship and the Hero). There's been rumblings of an injury but who knows.

He's 70th in the FedEx Cup which is the cut line for the exemption into the designated events next year (I think- It may be 50). There are exemptions based on OWGR (he's 20th so in) and sponsor's exemptions that'd he'd clean up on given his stardom but he's been pretty lousy for an extended time period.

Been talked about elsewhere but his Ryder Cup spot may be in jeopardy, which is hard to fathom given his history in team events.

It probably says more about Rickie than JT but Rickie began the year ranked 103 and JT began the year ranked 8 and Rickie (21 and playing well again this week) is about to pass JT (20).

66 for Rory today, clubhouse leader at -10. Ben An is on the course at -9 with 5 holes to play and could catch or pass him (though it is raining and they say winds are about to freshen).

Great leaderboard and the weather is supposed to get nasty this weekend. They moved tee times up tomorrow and Sunday's forecast has winds potentially up to 40 mph.

The commercial load for an online stream only broadcast early on a Sunday morning that only the sicko’s bother to seek out and watch is such an FU from CBS.

The 2 best finishes on Tour this year have been non-designated events. Turns out National Open’s bang.
And Rory and Rickie each winning in amazing finishes in the last 3 tourneys weren't shown live on tv.

Well yes that’s a big problem. I don’t get why CBS can’t show the live broadcast when weather forces then to move starting times up on Paramount (Bar Rescue marathon) or CBSSports (Auto racing repeat) or, you know, may sound crazy, the Golf Channel (Champions Tour repeat from yesterday).

I recently bought ESPN + because I got shut out of a few events (mostly content). So that’s where I went for the first two rounds. But I am a novice in the streaming world. Thanks for the tip on CBS sports app.

6 holes to play but JT appears headed towards another MC.

He went left hand low a few weeks ago now he's back to a traditional grip but with a counter-balanced putter. It ain't good.

JT went roller coaster coming in, doubling 4 then ripping off 3 straight birdies to get to -2, current cut line though it probably moves to -3. Bogeyed 8 to basically end his chances but rolled in a bomb on 9 to get back to -2.

The putter has been the biggest problem, he's 159th in SG putting. Off the tee, approach and around the green have dipped too but are still above average at least.

5th MC in his last 7 starts. I believe he is playing Wyndham next week but he's going to be around 80th in the FedEx Cup so going to need a high finish to make the playoffs. Who the hell knows what the Tour looks like next year but he'll also be outside the designated event exemption. There were supposed to be OWGR exemptions (top 30, IIRC) and he's fading out of that (24th). He will get a healthy number of sponsor exemptions but this is a bit startling.

Good stuff over at the LPGA major. Ciganda was penalized for slow play then DQ'd after refusing to sign the scorecard reflecting the penalty. She instead signed for her actual score.

That's something because it looks like she might have made the cut at +4. Even last place money is like $13k so giving up a paycheck to prove a point (though to be fair, she has made almost $900k already this year). Trying to decide the PGA tour player would be most likely to do something similar, but most of my immediate reactions are guys on LIV (like, I could totally see Brooks doing this if he was in a group that was penalized because he had to play with like Bryson and Cantlay or something like that).

The Paris of the 80s
Heckuva front 9 by Yu, but giving it back a bit on the back side

was surprised to hear CBS say he is from “Chinese Taipei”.
The PGA Tour follows the Olympics model and replaces Taiwan with Chinese Taipei. They use the Olympics Chinese Taipei flag for graphics with a flag next to the player.

CBS seems to refer to Taiwan as Taiwan elsewhere, especially CBS News, so a conscious decision must have been made to honor the Tour's position. Which is of course horseshit.
