Not that he’s in the same category, but I don’t think anybody ever tried to get Babe Ruth or Mickey Mantle or Reggie Jackson to cut down on their swings or go the other way. The shift was even invented for defending the GOAT, Ted Williams. He said he didn’t want to risk screwing with his swing by going opposite field, although he ultimately did some of the time.
That's all fine and good, but occasionally Devers does go oppo with great effect. I never heard that that has hurt him.
In the meantime, the game has gone to hell in a handbasket, maybe.

It's going to be extra infuriating this year when the Yankees sweep the Twins out of the playoffs. I think Minnesota is my fourth least favorite franchise, behind 1: MFY and a tie for 2: TB/BAL...

Maybe he just goes oppo when he swings at outside pitches. I would hope he doesn’t try to pull those. Anyway, he is what he is, a swing for the fences guy.
