Elvis Soto allowed a hit, walked 2 & made a throwing error in a 29 pitch 1st inning for Salem...no runs, though.

Salem has started each of their 3 innings batting with a lead off walk. They don't have any hits or runs, yet, though.

I might have been hasty with these 1-2-3 innings. Greenville has made 2 errors, which have prevented 2 innings from being 1-2-3, but Penrod has pitched 4 scoreless innings, allowing 1 walk & striking out 3 so far.

Cade Kuehler, 21, was the starter for the Augusta GreenJackets against Salem today. He was the 70th pick of the 2023 draft & was making his Minor League debut today. 2.1 IP, 0 runs, 0 hits, 3 walks, 3 strikeouts.

PENROD allowed his 1st hit in the 5th (a soft single to right), but struck out the other 3 guys he faced.

The GreenJackets relief pitcher has gotten 5 guys out on 9 pitches. Salem may need some work on their approach...

& their fielding approach. Yuten missed a fly ball that would have ended the 4th inning, but instead allowed a run to score.

Penrod struck out the 1st 2 hitters in the 6th, but then allowed a walk & a single before getting out of the inning. He's thrown 85 pitches. Wonder if they let him back out for the 7th to go for the shutout...I'm guessing probably not & they'll bring in Brock Bell, but who knows?

Zach Fogell, the Red Sox 18th round pick out of Providence, RI by way of UConn, is making his A-Ball debut in the 5th.

Brock Bell is in fact in for the top of the 7th & final inning to try to protect Greenville's 1-0 lead.

Corey Rosier led off the bottom of the 1st for Portland with a triple. He scored on a wild pitch on the 4th ball to Nick Yorke.

Bastardo allowed a run in the top of the 1st, so it's 1-1.

Bell pitched a 1-2-3 7th for his 3rd save.

Greenville wins 1-0. Besides Roman's lead off homer, their only other baserunner came on a Karson Simas single.

Fogell allowed a lead off single in the 5th, but got through the rest of the inning unscathed. He's back out for the bottom of the 6th, down 1-0.

I get he's a older than all the other guys except Mejicano by a couple years (turned 22 the other day), but he has been leaps & bounds a better hitter than any of them. Might be time to try him in Greenville. Maybe we can move that Roman Anthony guy up to make room for him.

The all lefty doubleheader starting pair is an aggressive maneuver, but you can't contain YORDANNY to a 7-inning game, so I get it.
