Tellier has an interesting delivery, but he doesn't really use it to hide the ball enough, doesn't throw hard enough, & also isn't even throwing strikes.

He walked another guy & is done after 0.1 innings, 2 walks, 1 strikeout.

Brock Bell came in & allowed a double, a single, & 3 total runs (2 of Tellier's 1 of his).

Seems to have decent stuff... but they were attacking high fastballs early in the count.

Gilberto also possibly could have caught the double, but it was smacked over his head.

Greenville down 7-6. Really not sure what the point in pitching Tellier was.

Tyler Miller lead off double b8. Good day for Tylers. More on that later.

Kristian Campbell tried to score from 3rd on a ball that got away from the catcher, but got barely tagged out by the diving catcher.

Salem scored a 5th run on some walks & steals & wild pitches & past balls & such.

Railin Perez in for the 9th.

Nick Decker hit in the foot. Paulino up with the bases loaded 1 out.

2 rbi single for Paulino... then some suicidal base running by Decker & Paulino to end the inning.

OMG all I wanted was to see Teel hit, but instead Paulino hits into a 2 run double play (I will let KM3 describe it).
Lol I have to actually describe it? The rightfielder tried to throw Decker out at 3rd. The ball bounced like 5 feet away, but Decker tried to score anyway & got gunned out by about 20 feet, then they threw out Paulino trying to get to 3rd.

This Bell guy needs to not elevate fastballs out over the plate.

Solo homer, 9-8.

Jett Williams should get credit for two home runs for that one he just hit. Whoa.
Brock Bell is a semi-interesting pitcher, but every time he left his fastball high & out over the plate it got smoked.

In the non-Teel division...

Decker was 1-3 with a homer (7), a hbp & some disastrous base running.

Paulino was 2-5 with some garden-variety bad base running.

Miller was 2-4 with a double.

Gonzalez was 2-4 without a double.

Simas was 1-3 with a walk & a steal (5).

Campbell was 1-3 with a walk & without a steal, & added some pretty bad base running.

With their captain, Tyler McDonough, cheering them on from the bench, the other 3 Tylers each picked up at least 1 hit.

Combined they were 6-12 with 3 doubles, 4 runs & 4 RBI.

JM3, appreciate all the hard work in this thread. Just wondering what are you going to do with yourself in a couple weeks when this is all over?

I do like 90% of this on my phone while doing other things, so I guess mostly just multitask a bit less & be a bit more present at work & home.

Probably consume more NFL & NBA content. Also write more blog posts & try to grow my business.

This is where I’m at, if he can bump his stuff up a notch this winter he jumps right into the Perales/Gonzalez/Monegro mix.
Hopefully he's got more coming. He already bumped it up a couple mph this off season, but his pitchability & control are already pretty pretty good.

I posted a link to this yesterday, but didn't read it until just now. Kind of interesting getting the perspective of a guy struggling after a promotion.

“Number one is the strike zone.” Van Belle said of the biggest difference from Double-A. “It is way smaller now with the ABS. You can’t really nibble on the corners as much because during the week the strike zone is smaller than on the weekend. Number two is the opposing hitters take advantage of your mistakes more often than guys in Double-A because they are older and more experienced. They have faced guys in the major leagues and have spent time up there. Some are future major leaguers, and they will make you pay for your mistakes. You just have to go out there and not be perfect because you are a human being and will make mistakes. I just need to work on executing your pitches more times than not.”
“The goal overall before any season is to be healthy and feel good and strong.” Van Belle said. “Consistency is another big one. Before I got here while in Double-A, I was pretty consistent. I have shown instances here of success and other instances of things that have happened that have not gone my way and mistakes being taken advantage of when I am on the mound. I just want to be consistent for the last month of the season and control what I can. I want to go deep in games and be efficient. Everything that people look for in a starting pitcher is what I want to work on. Whenever it is my turn to take the ball, I just want to try to do all of those things and compete from the first pitch to the last. I want to look back after 2023 and not think of any instances where I wasn’t competing.”

Given the context of how he returned to pitching, I am feeling tentatively optimistic about Song. Or at least relative to where things stood earlier this year. With a full professional offseason, etc, who knows.

Since June 28th for Paez:

10 games
51 innings
9 earned runs
39 hits
5 walks
45 strikeouts

1.59 ERA
0.86 WHIP

& he doesn't turn 20 until January.

It's weird that our high-A team has two 26 y/o starting pitchers who came in mid-season who are kind of interesting for completely different reasons.
