Burned . . . Blacklisted
Starting a thread for the switch-hitting Outfielder, currently in High-A Greenville after finishing there the second half of last year, and was good, with a .355 OBP and .801 OPS.

Castro seems to have a good plate approach, and scouts like his chances to show power, though it hasn’t yet fully manifested in-game. The latest Sox Prospects podcast noted he’s more fluid and natural hitting lefty

He stole 19 bases and has 2 this year and reports are decent in the OF, but he may not be a full-time CF.

The numbers this season don’t jump off the page yet, except the 27-ish % walk rate. Tossing out a silly 5BB first game of the season, Castro has still had 11 walks in 12 games (and 17 strikeouts).

From the same recent pod, it was noted he’s been hitting the ball hard so far with little to show for it, so there could be early noise in the BA and SLG.
Hard to not like the .390 OBP however.

Not all minor league plate discipline numbers are equal however, so further reports on Castro’s approach will be helpful to determine if he has a good feel for the strike zone, or is just passive, or taking too many pitches he can’t do anything with.

A fun player I’m regularly following
