Maybe it's just because they're bad at math?It does seem odd but we do know the Yanks always generously support the Jimmy Fund Radiothon, and I can attest that Yankee fans are among the most generous in baseball when it comes to supporting the 50 50 raffle at Fenway.
Yes, there are surely hundreds, but as Lose said, they routinely give generously to the Jimmy Fund. Also, the Sox and Yankees communities are joined closely, albeit in a rivalry.A nice gesture, but is there a connection there? Seems a bit odd as there must surely be hundreds of LEO's who lose their life every year.
Not sure how it works out per year, but there have been 372 total and 126 by gunfire. The Sox also honored Officer Gannon at Fenway on Friday night so that may have inspired the Yankees gesture as well. How many LEOs are killed in the line of duty every year, just in MA?
I caught this too. Those NYY jerks also posted an anti-bullying video for a 10 year old

I'm supposed to dislike these guys...why do they do this to my feelings
Seriously though, another classy move by the organization
