Jaylen and Tatum would be used on him before we went to our deep bench
Not to mention that they'll switch up coverages and not personnel. We saw this extensively as they progressively figured out how to shut down the Bam+Herro actions using the same guys in different schemes.

I can absolutely see Tatum on Mitchell late and on switches, but I'll be surprised if we see much of that otherwise.

I do think you start the defense with controlling Mitchell and try to make Garland or others beat you. Celtics are just so good defensively---both one on one and with schemes---it is going to require a herculean effort from Mitchell or somethign really unexpected (e.g. the Dean Wade game) from others for Cavs to get the points they likely need.

JB has gotten better at help, so I think they're not quite as concerned about that.

I would be surprised if the gameplan is not:
-
switch 1-4
- chase hard over the top on screens
- drop
- help very aggressively from the strong-side corner to take away overly easy mid-rangers
- help even more aggressively off guys like Okoro
I say this as a genuine question: Wasn't that pretty much the plan that got us in trouble in Game 2 vs Miami? What are the differences?

My post was also the gameplan for games 3-5. Game 2 wasn't *that* different--the Celtics just executed the plan 20% better with 20% more effort, and some minor scheme tweaks. This is often the "adjustment" for superior teams in the playoffs.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw a decent amount of Holiday on Mobley, as they run a million PnR’s.

I think the matchups will be pretty straight forward out of the game though.

My god, tickets for tomorrow's game are going for $98. I wish. Cheapest right before gametime for the Knick is $240 each.
On the plus side, you get an Event for that $240. I wish I were in NYC right now tbh--would definitely go, even at the high price.

Instead, I'm stuck in CA where no more basketball is happening until October.

I thought we played less drop after game 2? And we only went over the top against Herro and sometimes Martin - I think we went under if it was Jaquez or Wright or we really didn't like the matchup that a switch would leave us with.

I also assume the amount of help we send for drives depends on how much we respect the outside shooting, and we had a lot of respect for Miami's (>38%: Herro, Robinson, Kovic, Highsmith), while we should maybe have a bit less vs Cleveland, (>38%: Okoro, Wade... and we're done), no?

You get yourself to Cleveland for Saturday or Monday, the ticket's on me.

Nope, they mostly stayed in drop with the bigs after game 2. NBA playoff adjustments are rarely as coarse as "drop/no drop".

I think this will definitely improve now that he’s escaped Spo, also Michael Potter Jr? Lol
Also no Kerr to deal with this postseason run. That's interesting though, a lot of relative newcomers to deep playoff runs remain. Michael Malone and Rick Carlisle have the only championships, thanks to their respective European "freaks".

The interior defense is a little scary with the new rules, and the guard offense the Cavs have is also scary. I expect this one to go 6.

Since we have to find ridiculously minor things to criticize this awesome team, can someone please talk to Tatum that he should not commit any take fouls? Maybe that one before the half in the last minute wasn't a take foul, sort of seemed like it might have been - but it was his second foul, and then he picked up his third right after that. Now, the Celtics were winning handily, and they of course won handily - but, I just don't like seeing Tatum committing unnecessary fouls. It's not worth it.

6 turnovers. Thats a nice sight. They need to lock in and sweep this series. Get everyone some rest before the ECF.

I'd be very surpised if Allen is back and effective this series. Bruised ribs that prevent you from playing to become unbruised in 48 hours and don't stay unbruised while playing playoff basketball.

Would be nice to have KP here to help draw Mobley away from the paint. Tough to get a lot going at the rim with him around it. Even so, if this team is who some of us think they are should be a 5 game series.
I badly bruised my ribs days before my bachelor party and let's just say I didn't sleep well for like 3 weeks. Playing paintball was *brutal*.

I can't imagine playing full-contact basketball.

I couldn't watch a second of this game thanks for parenting and work responsibilities -- was able to track it on my phone -- seems like it was never really in doubt, no? Like the big early lead and that was that?

Spida and a bunch of guys who would at best be on this Celtics team’s bench, aren’t going to be able to get it done against our boys. Enjoyed every minute of it tonight. Looking forward to the next 3.

Not sure the C's lead ever fell to single digits in the second half. Maybe it got down to nine once.

Only concern I have is Tatum’s shooting.

9-36 from 3 in the postseason.

Fortunately we can still win most nights without it.

Mitchell wouldn't start for us. With Porzingis hurt Mobley actually might.

The Celtics are the first team in the play-by-play era (since 1997-98), to hold a 25-point lead in 4 straight playoff games.

The Celtics now have 19 wins by 25+ points this season, breaking a tie with the 1971-72 Bucks and 2015-16 Spurs for the most in NBA history (regular season and playoffs).

What? Lol
I think Brown starts over him, and I don't see how you run him/Jaylen/Tatum at the same time, not enough shots for Mitchell and he's never shown the dedication to defense, Jrue fits better.
He'd never be on the roster at the same time as all these other guys obviously, but hypothetically if he was they'd likely use him as the greatest rich man's Lou Will ever.

with the rest of the team being what it is i think he’s saying you add more value with jrues skillset. not much more meat on the bone of the best offense ever.
I agree with this…..but if Mitchell was on this team he’d be starting next to Jrue with White back in his 6th man role and we win 74 games.

Feels strange to watch this team just cruising in the playoffs against a decent opponent. Just wire to wire,m.
