Are you a member there?
I wish. The closest I ever came was when I was first a student and then a teaching faculty member at the Naval War College, when one of the grizzled veteran faculty was a member. He wrangled a deal where the good club offered 10 annual temporary memberships for $2,000 per year to active duty officers passing through the college. I scarfed that up and played maybe 100 rounds over 4 years. Great course. Great experience. Great memories. My best score was an 84. I couldn't come close to that now...even from the yellow tees.

Interesting though, the clubhouse itself is crap compared to any upper-scale course. I mean, the interior layout is garbled, crowded, disjointed, and jangled, not even offering a decent lounge or bar. But hey, it memorializes the tradition of one of the first original six courses. Just suck it in and STFU. What would you expect from a clubhouse built in 1893, despite extensive renovations in 2005 (largely in anticipation for the 2006 US Women's Open). But it's still a piece of [less than stellar offerage].

I was also a walking scorer in the US Amateur at Newport in 1995, in which Tiger added another trophy to his case for the 2nd consecutive year. I didn't get assigned to any of his matches, but I remember following his group during the final match against Buddy Marucci. It was a nip and tuck match but Tiger won 2 up

It’s very odd that the USGA and R&A, the two organizations responsible for making distance measuring devices legal before any local rules through their 2020 rules overhaul, run the only two high-level women’s events than ban DMDs. I feel bad for Vongtaveelap and hope it wasn’t caused by a language barrier.
I doubt it. She speaks fluent English and openly admitted she thought they had changed the rule on the Korn Ferry Tour, and thus the PGA/LPGA tour. Said the error was totally on her.

What I saw today though was body language, facial expressions, and lip-read discussions with herself that basically said, "Oh no", on several shots. Like no confidence in her stroke. We'll see. We'll likely need to lean on Allison Corpuz as the primary US contender at this point. I think Angel Yin and Rose are out of range unless something silly happens tomorrow.

No, as many have pointed out earlier, she has regressed to her norm. She is currently ranked 455.

Actually, I would say she is still playing lights out...for her.
For sure. She a qualifier who made her first Major cut, and she is playing an amazing tournament. She's a huge longshot to win, but hanging on for a top 10 would be fantastic.

This is shaping up to be a great finish.

If I remember correctly, the USGA moved away from an 18-hole playoff on Monday In the event of a tie after the 2006 championship that Annika Sorenstam won over Pat Hurst.

This championship could certainly wind up there.

Hull is pressuring, but I doubt either Corpuz or Hataoka are even noticing. I don't know how much of a leaderboard-watcher either are.

Tough for Hataoka. One thing the commentators have repeated often is how hard she has worked to improve her putting, perhaps suggesting it is a weak part of jer game. But she's currently ranked #37.

Corpuz doesn't exactly light up the board - currently ranked #104 in putting.

I gotta say, for a major championship, I never imagined I'd be talking to myself most of the time. 37 of the 78 posts prior to this one.

The men's open garnered 11 pages at least. 2 pages for the women?

I don't think this board truly appreciates the quality of women's golf.

If it makes you feel any better, I watched every shot of the weekend and just about every shot of Thu/Fri, I just watch them at night after playing so stayed out of the thread. You're right though, it was really great golf. Was expecting some drama but Corpuz wasn't having any of that. Hull was really fun to watch today.

I watched some of Saturday and most of Sunday. Sorry, I don't game thread but I agree that this was great golf and lots of fun to watch. I'd have preferred a more dramatic finish, but you can't have everything.

I watched most of it as well.

I really enjoy watching the women but it's really hard to follow and watch them on a weekly basis due to a lack of exposure. NBC/USGA did a nice job this week but that's an exception to the rule. Most weeks, including other majors like the KPMJ, it's very difficult to watch. The TV windows either suck or are non-existent and there's limited streaming. It just becomes very difficult for fan engagement.

Pebble was great but I think it did suffer from a lack of star power on the leaderboard.

You have to look deeper though. Yes they are on the Golf Channel, however it's a 2-hour tape delayed, pre-produced broadcast from 7:30-9:30pm Thursday - Saturday. Sunday they get a 2 hour live broadcast from CBS because the men will be finished (they are in Scotland) but again, that's the exception and not the rule.

It's not good for the product.

@cshea Is that true of Peacock? I thought they live streamed.
Not a clue. I don't think they are even on Peacock this week, they aren't listed on the Peacock schedule.

This is indicitive of the problem. I love watching golf on TV. I would consider myself a golf sicko, I watch just about every level there is. If I can't find the LPGA broadcast, how will a casual fan?

Edit: So I guess they are streaming through nbcsports.com Thursday-Saturday from 3:30-6:30. No idea if that is additional coverage. It could be the same window that GC repackages for their 2-hour tape delayed slot.

California. Duh.
Had a great time walking the course and seeing several of the golfers. Was hanging out by the first tee talking to the starter a bit on Friday, and saw this sitting on her podium right before her group came to tee off.
