Pretty sure Walter is in KC right now. Not sure who is actually going to start. Maybe Murphy?

& I think Cristian Nunez for Salem iirc.

LDLR has pitched at least 2 & no more than 3 innings in each of his last 7 games, & for the last 5 has pitched every 4th day.

During that time he has thrown 18.1 innings & allowed 1 earned run on 9 hits & 10 walks with 28 strikeouts.

During this time frame:

0.49 ERA
1.04 WHIP
13.75 k/9

Opponents had a .355 BABIP against YORDANNY at Salem. & he still put up a 2.43 ERA.

Will be interesting to see how much of his 34.5% k-rate he can carry over (it was 37.1% in FCL), but also he'll hopefully lower his 9.8% bb rate.

No mention of the four scheduled games for Aug 31?
9 hits total: Worcester--3 hits; Portland--4 hits; Greenville--2 hits; Salem--0 hits. The latter two were scheduled games (7.0 innings) but they got reasonable numbers of hits (11,7) in the two 7-inning make-up games.

I think I covered all of yesterday's results in yesterday's thread?

But I try to as much as possible focus on the positive (with all due apologies to the Tylers).

For the record, though, it's a good stat & I appreciate you posting it... just don't be surprised I didn't :)

I like Rosier, he seems like a Jarren Duran type-- less power than Duran but more of a natural OF, and similar speed.
Maybe the Sox aren't impressed with him, since they are keeping him in AA, but I am.
He's taken a big leap since last year & the Portland outfield is pretty thin (as evidenced by all the Tylers they play out there), so it's not particularly surprising he hasn't been promoted, yet (except for a couple weeks when he & Max Ferguson were up there due to all the injuries they had going on). Especially since until recently Worcester had C Note & Abreu, & they also seem intent on getting Dalbec RF reps.

I could easily see Rosier getting promoted to Worcester as early as next week, though. Not sure how many reps they need to be giving out there to Narciso Crook, Bradley Zimmer & Ryan Fitzgerald.

I won't get as crazy with it as I did with the pitching stuff, but I think the following outfield promotion chain makes sense:

Salem to Greenville:
Albertson Asigen (#90) - .809 OPS in 137 PAs, 139 wRC+
Jhostynxon Garcia (#65) - .696 OPS in 276 PAs, 100 wRC+

Jhostynxon has been hitting a lot better lately than he did all season, but he's still not been great this season & is about 16 months younger than Asigen, even though he has spent more time in A-Ball. Also, despite half the PAs, Asigen is 11 of 13 on steals compared to 7 of 9 for Jhostynxon. I don't think Asigen is an organizational priority based on usage, but he has been by far Salem's best hitter & he just turned 22 so it makes sense to move up to Greenville & give him a role there.

Salem is a bit thin in the outfield, but they just started working Stanley Tucker into the mix, so between Tucker, Jhostynxon & Yuten, with a side of Feliz, they should be fine. They could also give a guy like Kelvin Diaz some run out there. He didn't hit great for the FCL Sox, but walked a ton & is a fast OF who seems to have some interesting traits.

Greenville to Portland:
Roman Anthony (#2) - .990 OPS in 236 PAs, 166 wRC+
Allan Castro (#20) - .866 OPS in 151 PAs, 136 wRC+

You could make cases for promoting Eduardo Lopez (#84), Bryan Gonzalez (#95), or Gilberto Jimenez (#107), but I don't see a lot of point. None of them are particularly crushing pitching at Greenville (wRC+'s of 107, 98 & 72 respectively), and aren't the greatest defenders. Nick Decker (#167) is old for the level, but is also not crushing it (107 wRC+). Kristian Campbell has also been getting some outfield run, but he just got to Greenville a couple days ago, so don't see a lot of urgency in a promotion.

I would obviously love to see Roman keep advancing through the system, but they might want to be more patient, especially with the way his strikeout rates have been increasing lately. They definitely have enough depth here, especially with the addition of Asigen, to promote 2 guys if they wanted to.

Portland to Worcester:
Corey Rosier (#46, SP #56) - .818 OPS in 373 PAs, 123 wRC+

& that's really the whole list. Matthew Lugo (#59, SP #47) has been injured & struggling this season (90 wRC+), Phillip Sikes (#72, SP #46) has not been particularly good (84 wRC+) & hasn't played in a few days for whatever reason, Tyler McDonough (#98, SP #52) has also not been particularly good (86 wRC+), & Tyler Dearden (#182) has been ok (105 wRC+), but he's 25 & not a good defender & there's not much point in promoting him.

Rosier's OPS only trails Nathan Hickey (.838) on Portland's roster, & is actually .001 higher than Nick Yorke (who there also could be made a compelling case to promote to Worcester for the rest of the season).

So in summary:
Kelvin Diaz to A-Ball
Albertson Asigen to A+
Roman Anthony to AA
Corey Rosier to AAA

08/31/23 Portland Sea Dogs activated C Matt Donlan.
08/31/23 Portland Sea Dogs activated RHP Dylan Spacke.
08/31/23 Portland Sea Dogs transferred RHP Isaac Coffey to the Development List.
08/31/23 Worcester Red Sox activated RHP Andrés Núñez.
I think Donlan is the corresponding move to Bonaci being unavailable at the moment, even though Portland now has 2 catchers on their 4-man bench. So maybe they could actually use like a Nick Decker or something from Greenville for depth purposes, especially since Sikes was 1 of those 4 bench guys & he hasn't been playing.

Coffey is interesting. My best guess is it's an innings thing as it's not as if he's been struggling. He's thrown 111.2 innings this year after throwing 90 last year, so they might be looking to just skip him for a time through the rotation or something. Spacke was previously placed on the Development List. Same with Núñez who is the corresponding move to Brandon Walter getting promoted.

Coffey & Walter are still listed as starters for today on the MiLB page, even though I'm pretty positive neither is happening.

Wikelman & Sharp started in the doubleheader on Sunday. I would expect Wikelman to return to his normal Saturday role, & Sharp, who only pitched like 2 innings in his game, would get the start today in Coffey's absence.

Oddanier Mosqueda is listed as the starter for Worcester now. He last pitched on Tuesday. Faced 8 hitters, got out 7 of them (striking out 3), & hit the other. He threw 33 pitches. Don't expect for him to go particularly deep.

Was a pretty good interview with Brian Abraham, although not like groundbreaking or anything. Good talk about the process & such.

The most interesting thing to me was probably that he was talking about how Miguel Bleis has been working with their people in Ft. Myers & that yes, it's disappointing that he's not able to improve on the field, but they use it as an opportunity to work on mental skills & diet & such & get to know him better as a person. I hope Bleis starts next year in Greenville.

He also mentioned that they're very happy with Mayer's development & defense, & feels that his surface level #s should be higher but he's had a lot of bad BABIP luck.

Regarding pitching, he talked about some of the process for challenging pitchers & getting them trained in various ways, making them stretch themselves in different ways. He said they were ok with Drohan struggling in AAA because he needs to be punished for his mistakes in order to keep improving & he wasn't getting challenged enough in AA. On Wikelman, he said he was making big improvement in repeatability of his motion. On Perales, he talked about working on gaining confidence & improving his secondary pitches.

On Teel, they're really excited about him & love his personality & ability to be a good teammate, & are trying to clean up a few things on defense, but they really like how his hitting approach has been.

Nazzan has a minor hamstring strain which is why he's on the IL & they hope to have him back by the end of the year.

Thanks for the recap, that type of development insight is more interesting to me than game highlights.

Yeah, if that stuff was more readily available, I would definitely want to consume more of it. Even though it's heavily sanitized, it's still nice getting a glimpse into the process.

Thx! Found my father-in-law dead in his house on Monday. Just spent many hours trying to sort 20 years of hoarded paperwork. Been a weird week.

Will try to get caught up a bit later.
