Well, my assumption is sitting in a chair and shooting a basketball. But I could be wrong. If he's taking shots at an actual 10 foot rim, yeah. What is seated shooting though?

Is seated shooting a good thing? Wouldn’t that mess his mechanics up? It’s not quite like Pedroia fielding ground balls on his knees.
It won't hurt his mechanics any more than shooting a free throw hurts your jump shot mechanics. It's actually helpful for proper form and many shooting coaches included seated shooting drills for just that reason. Obviously this isn't breaking new ground for NBA teams and it's safe to assume the Celtics know what they're doing. If he's taking shots at an actual 10 foot rim, yeah. What is seated shooting though?
Finally, the Celtics organization has been just over the top in every aspect. They know I will not be back on the court at all this season, but they have been making sure I have every resource I need, and are making me feel like I am a part of the team. The entire Celtics family is filled with so many incredibly caring people.
The only silver lining is that it would look really bad if he talked or even implied he's coming back like a day after we received the DPE. I'm sure he and the Celtics have worked out a very specific communication plan for recovery. In the small chance he's good to go by playoffs, then it's an unexpected miracle for the overall fanbase and everyone can go nuts.Yeah, that highlighted sentence is the kill shot.
It's a heartfelt message that was great to read. He seems like a good guy and I hope his recovery is complete. But it's sobering to realize that yes, it's all over for this year.
Sports Illustrated has coached it as saying that Hayward has ruled out a return.Yeah, I don't think that sentence changes anything.
I'm just not convinced that what is being said publicly is necessarily what is being said privately. There is no upside to talking publicly about coming back this year.Sports Illustrated has coached it as saying that Hayward has ruled out a return.
Who knows? Maybe if you set a goal of making it back this season and then don't it's demoralizing, whereas if it's the other way around...
EDIT: Just read it--I didn't realize he flew back with team.
Is Today Show interested in this if he’s a member of the Jazz? Feels like his national profile has been raised due to being a Celtic.Hayward was on the Today Show this morning. Anyone see it? Anything interesting?
EDIT: Found it. Guess I should have looked first: https://www.today.com/news/gordon-hayward-sight-gruesome-ankle-injury-will-be-me-forever-t118318
Warning--they show the play a number of times in the interview.
Yeah, it sounded like he was down to come back if everything checked out, but no one involved wants to Grant Hill it.
If we're going to read tea leaves, he didn't say that he was not going to return this season after being asked point blank. Just that he wasn't going to put pressure or expectations on himself regarding timeline.
It also could be the fact that his foot fell off on national TVIs Today Show interested in this if he’s a member of the Jazz? Feels like his national profile has been raised due to being a Celtic.

I hear it's the same chair that dunked on Yi JianlianI wonder if they sit on the chair that Markelle Fultz played against during his draft visit.
so far, so good. When has this ever actually played out? The only 82 game season in which Ewing missed any significant time, the Knicks went from a 57 win team to a 43 win team. 1999 playoffs, when (I believe) the "Ewing Theory" played out was just the Knicks winning a total of three games against the Pacers, and then getting smoked in the finals against a team that created huge mismatches in the frontcourt without Ewing (the Knicks could win vs. Dale Davis and Rik Smits, Duncan and Robinson is another story altogether).
The only time I ever see this actually playing out is when the star isn't actually that good, and replacing them with someone "worse" actually leads to better results. That was never the case with Ewing, and with Hayward, it would mean the people who took his minutes made a HUGE leap. There's still very little chance the Celtics are better without him.
You do realize that Hayward played a grand total of five minutes as a Celtic, right? Though I suppose if you really want to shoehorn the Ewing Theory into a case where we have absolutely no priors, it'll be only slightly less useful than as originally conceived.so far, so good.
Facts are facts, man. The Celtics are 0-1 with Hayward in the starting lineup. They are 12-1 without him.You do realize that Hayward played a grand total of five minutes as a Celtic, right? Sweet on/off though.Facts are facts, man. The Celtics are 0-1 with Hayward in the starting lineup. They are 12-1 without him.
Hmmm... true, but check the DNPs- maybe the Ewing Theory needs a Theis Corollary.Facts are facts, man. The Celtics are 0-1 with Hayward in the starting lineup. They are 12-1 without him.
I take it you're agreeing with this welcome development with Brown and Tatum?so far, so good.
This start notwithstanding, they're still a better team over 82(+) when Hayward is healthy and back in the lineup (and I can't imagine the energy a smaller Horford/Hayward/Tatum/Brown/Irving lineup could do in bursts).with Hayward, it would mean the people who took his minutes made a HUGE leap
In a Vacuum yes, I entirely agree - the key will be how his minutes are distributed when he returns. I think to a larger picture this has allowed Danny to take a look at players and have development potential dramatically increased to see what he might need more clearly for the next 2-3 year and what pieces can be moved.Isnt the big thing that this will MAKE them a better team with Hayward Eventually?
As of now, Ainge said the next steps include getting him off crutches and into a new walking boot before moving into a brace. But regardless of any progress, Ainge has emphasized that the forward is still a “long way from getting on the court.”
Adjustment periods haven't seemed very long under Stevens. We all expected this team to take months to gel but they were playing together on day one. There might be a bit of a period, but taking the bench's 20-25 worst minutes and replacing them with even a limited Hayward would undoubtedly be an improvement. That said, I'm not getting my hopes up.I really think I’d prefer he just take the year. They have a good flow going and not that he’d be a negative, but even at full health, there would be an adjustment period that would likely come with bad timing. Play the hand they have and go after it next year with him back and hopefully a top5 pick.
Agree with this wholeheartedly.Adjustment periods haven't seemed very long under Stevens. We all expected this team to take months to gel but they were playing together on day one. THey had months to gel during preseason and practice, in different roles ban they have now. I can’t imagine the envisioned Tatum/Brown or be other kids and pieces playing such a big piece. Bringing him back right before the playoffs, I’d be worried if they tried to integrate him when things are clicking and there was a small chance he makes much difference in the long run for a ring.Adjustment periods haven't seemed very long under Stevens.
